Celebrating World Day for Safety and Health at Work
May 2nd, 2017. Santiago, Dominican Republic. - The ESTRELLA group of companies joined the celebrations of World Day for Safety and Health at Work, an occasion established by the International Labor Organization in 2003and celebrated every April.
As part of the program of events, 189 members of the companies were recognized for their commitment, support and outstanding contribution to the fulfillment of safety, health and environmental standards.
Along with the awards ceremony, the program also included instructive talks on topics such as the importance of using personal protection equipment, ergonomics, and active break dynamics. The occupational health and industrial safety departments across all of the Acero Estrella, Ingeniería Estrella, ConcreDom and Cemento Panam’s head offices and projects organize similar events on a regular basis.
The ESTRELLA companies and their processes are certified under the OHSAS 18001 standard, which sets out the minimum requirements for best practice in Workplace Safety and Health management.
The companies also adhere to the national legislation as set out by the Dominican Republic Ministry of Labor to promote and guarantee workplace safety of its members while carrying out their duties.
Recognition for Acero ESTRELLA
The Ministry of Labor recognized Acero ESTRELLA for its effective application of regulation 522-06, as part of the “Safety and Health at Work: A Worker’s Inherent Right” fair, which was held at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo’s Santiago campus.
Other companies that received this certification included the Cibao International Airport, Envases Antillanos, EGE Haina, Barrick Pueblo Viejo, the Santiago Association of Traders and Industrialists, the PUCMM University, La Aurora, Sigma, Baldom and Edenorte Dominicana, along with several others from the industrial and commercial sectors.
